Disney’s Queen of Katwe will raise the spirits of anybody who sees it.
It’s the uplifting true story of a young girl from the streets of rural Uganda whose world rapidly changes when she is introduced to the game of chess, and, as a result of the support she receives from her family and community, is instilled with the confidence and determination she needs to pursue her dreams.
Directed by Mira Nair, one of India’s most award-winning filmmakers, from a screenplay by William Wheele, adapted from Tim Crothers’ book of the same name, Disney’s Queen of Katwe stars Golden Globe nominee David Oyelowo, Oscar winner and Tony Award nominee Lupita Nyong’o and introduces newcomer Madina Nalwanga as Phiona Mutesi, the young girl from the slums of Uganda who finds the confidence in herself to take on the world.
