Top 5 Back to School Essential Items + Win $250 to spend on Back to School Items

With Mia entering her last year of preschool and Maxi entering his first year of daycare, I thought I would share my top 5 essential back to school products if you have kids going to school or daycare this year. I am a huge fan of personalised school items because it makes life easier when it comes to collecting your child’s things or ensuring your child’s items don’t get lost.

I have also found that my kids love seeing their names on their school items! They feel very responsible and “big” when they see their name on something that is theirs. I see my daughter looking after her school items much more carefully when she sees her name on it. You could also win a $250 voucher to spend on any item on the Identity Direct website! Head to the end of the post to enter.

1. Backpack

Backpacks are an essential item for carrying your childs’ school items and belongings. Depending on whether your child is going to daycare, primary school or high school will determine what size bag they will need. The younger they are, the smaller the bag can be, but as they progress over the years, they will need a larger bag.

We use the backpacks from Identity Direct because not only are they personalised, but you can choose various sizes (mini, medium and large) and they have various designs to choose from – including licensed characters like Paw Patrol, Frozen and Cars.

It’s also important that you get a backpack that you can easily clean – because throughout the year it will get dirty. The Identity Direct backpack can be cleaned with a damp cloth, which makes cleaning those unsightly stains easy.

Since Mia is still in preschool, I got her a medium sized bag, which I think is the perfect size for primary school as well. For Maxi’s daycare needs, I got him the mini sized bag which is the right size for his belongings during the day. Personalised backpacks start from $32.99.

2. Hat

Hats is an item that is required at school or daycare. Your kids won’t be allowed outdoors to play without wearing a hat and they also don’t allow caps as a hat. They require bucket hats or those with a flap at the back of the hat, to better protect the kids from the sun.

We have personalised bucket hats with the kids names clearly marked on the front. I also love these hats because they are adjustable! Meaning they will fit as your child gets older. There is a drawstring which will tighten or loosen the fit of the hat. Prices for a personalised bucket hat start at $19.99 at Identity Direct.

3. Pencil case and pencils

So this one is a no-brainer right?! Your kids will need a pencil case and pencils for school. It’s easy for kids to lose their pencils – so how about personalising them? Yep, you can get a personalised pencil case and pencils from Identity Direct.

We have our hands on one for Mia and love that the pencil case is sturdy versus the standard type of pencil cases. The stationary set includes a personalised pencil case, 12 personalised coloured pencils and 4 personalised HB lead pencils. It also includes an eraser and sharpener that are not personalised. A personalised stationary set starts at $15.99.

4. Water bottle

After going through various water bottles over the years, I always prefer a stainless steel water bottle for its durability, ability to keep water cooler and being more eco-friendly versus plastic water bottles.

Identity Direct can personalise stainless steel water bottles (which I haven’t come across before because I have found that personalised water bottles are usually made from plastic) and can match your existing designs that you may have picked for the backpack. We found personalised water bottles starting at just $19.99.

5. Wet/Swim bag

Having a wet bag or swim bag is essential from day care right through to high school. In daycare, your kids are bound to have accidents. You can get the teachers to place any wet/dirty clothes in the wet bag to avoid getting the rest of the backpack wet and getting it personalised ensures that you don’t lose any dirty or wet clothes.

The wet bag I have found also doubles up as a swim bag, and we have used ours not only for daycare but also for my child’s swimming classes to place any wet items in there. We also used the wet bag for when we went to the beach! So this wet bag can be used for various occasions and having it personalised means that your kids won’t lose their wet items at school or daycare. You can grab a personalised wet bag from $29.99.

Now, with two littlies at day care, it’s the “accidents” that these bags would be so handy for.
