A Family-Inspired Feast with Peter Gunn and Brown Brothers Patricia

Family dinners are a place to share recipes, provide nourishment and spend quality time.

On Thursday March 22 Peter Gunn, chef and owner of Melbourne restaurant Ides, will honour this by hosting The Family Table – a five-course dinner inspired by his own family gatherings, paired with five matched wines.

Gunn is one of Melbourne’s most exciting young chefs. A former sous chef at the critically acclaimed Attica, Gunn now heads up Ides, his own boldly experimental restaurant located on Smith Street, Collingwood.

Gunn’s Family Table – which will be held in the beautifully curated space of Weylandts furniture store in Abbotsford – will showcase a series of dishes that call back to his youth. Each will be paired with a wine from the Brown Brothers flagship Patricia collection.

Fare will include sesame sourdough and peanut butter, inspired by the peanut-butter sandwiches of Gunn’s childhood; beetroot, horseradish and smoked herring, which aims to elevate the humble beetroot to fine-dining status; mains of Barramundi with black garlic and sweet corn, and lamb neck wrapped in parsley; and a dessert of strawberries and elderflowers – a tribute to the pavlova served by Gunn’s grandmother at family gatherings.

Each dish in The Family Table dinner will be paired with one of the five wines from the Brown Brothers Patricia collection, named after the Brown family’s matriarch, Patricia Brown. The winemakers’ flagship collection reflects the best in Brown Brother’s viticulture and winemaking and features pinot noir and chardonnay brut, chardonnay, shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and noble riesling.
