@jennye - good luck with the writing - trick is to keep trying. Sometimes a story/poem that gets nowhere in one competition will win another one (although I always end up tweaking them each time as well)

Great interview. It seems to be getting harder and harder to win these days as everyone is doing it. If you think your entry was the best it seems the less likely to win. I've entered thinking that my entry is fantastic but win on the ones that I don't think are very good. I don't know what the judges are thinking or what they are looking for. Most entries like Rowan's are pretty common these days though as most people do/say the same thing.

@KittyKat65 How long of a dry spell? I haven't won a Facebook comp since early Jan. Damn the curse of winning a candle.
Thou have picked up various small cash wins that have added up from various sites. X fingers for the leader board to pay this months internet bill.

Good Luck always happens when you least expect it. :)

Lemond
20 Sep 17 8:23 AM

@Lemond boo hoo for you! lol I've only won one thing since January

It's my birthday month and my highest daily score was 5 lowest 1. I'll be lucky to finish in top 20.. where are you placed?

Anna2077
20 Sep 17 9:27 AM

@Anna2077 Your turn on the leader will come soon.........
Didn't you end up top 10 last month or month before? There's a win. :) All those small wins can add up.

It's very close up the top of the leader board and looks like going to a tight finish and will have to wait until the final siren has sounded. Go the Tigers! Failing that x fingers for the comp draws due at end of the month.

Happy Birthday for this month. :)

Lemond
20 Sep 17 7:06 PM

@Lemond oh gosh in almost 3 years I made it to top 5 .. shocker..

When on your birthday month you cannot make it to top 3.. you lose faith...

On your birthday month you are always in the top 3, and now you are there again ... yeah usual suspects are always top 3, others make it my slim chance and I never do.. this month proves it that it will never happen

Anna2077
21 Sep 17 12:10 PM

@Anna2077 My birthday month this year was until then the only time I've probably been in the top 20. The previous year was right down the bottom, even with the bonuses. @FARMERTYSON won that one :).

If I recall last year you missed days and can't expect to win if miss even one. Scrapping the birthday bonus makes it's fairer and keeps members interested beyond once a year. Overall the odss are very decent for the prizes on offer. I saw yesterday 5000 entries for bars of chocolate, I don't like chances for sweet success for that one. If you hang in there and give yourself the best chance completing all the "skill" requirements your luck will eventually change. You're only ever one lucky draw away or witty WOL comp etc from turning things around.

What I do is hedge my bets on another sites with a leader board/exclusive comps. If I scrounged around there are probably other similar member exclusive comps which might have decent odds. Not all would be random some require writing up reviews if that's your forte. That's where my "luck" has only come from lately doing the bread and butter draws. You don't need to do 100's of comps for the same results.

So I've been a member right on 2 years and virtually done every month 99.9% ticking off all the comps and won once and 3rd. That would be roughly right on average. For a year and 1/2 couldn't get under 20th, everytime I got near @toxicgherkin score I would plument my nemises for months. :) Swear the "random" points for that period was baised against us early birds. Thou for BC the maintence for those abnormalities you need to wipe the slate clean and start from that point in time.

Various members have had good runs on the leader board at times. If you look at the top 50 I'm always seeing the usual 40ish suspects each month. What makes it random, you never know when might win and more then likely those wins will come in batches. Thou start to wonder on Facebook when compers win like 3 times in a day how to join the luck band wagon. Hint those compers are likely entering a lot of FB comps or FB tagging entries.

Looks like @moreofachance has had their fair share of luck on the leader board this last year. Need to pray that ends real soon.(Like before the end of this month). lol

Good chance this month come the final siren the scores might be level for a few members. :)

Lemond
22 Sep 17 12:48 AM

@Lemond This year like last I'm busy but decided to take few minutes out to see if my being here will make a difference and it did not.

Scarping the birthday bonus is not fair as people who are lagging can come up and get a present with the bonus ..

I don't enter competitions for sport... I only enter what I need and want to see/do as money is tight ... just got a call that I missed out on the job I badly needed. As it was. group interview I heard others answers and gave the agency feedback .. she was taken aback .. clearly she received different feedback from the client.

Actually it's the usual 10 who are at the top more often then not

Since I don't enter many competitions and others always have good luck winning and they go for things that they don't need, people like myself miss out.

Anna2077
22 Sep 17 12:13 PM

@Anna2077 Well if some months have heap more birthdays then others then that logic doesn't quite work out. It's highly unlikey ever to evenly distributed. With around 40-50 "active" members has shown some months had maybe 1-2 and others 6+. The higher the bonus the probability of winnning for your birthday month approaches 1/number of numbers. That's where the inequality lies. Inequality is out of fashion lately.

It was a fine balance how high to set the birthday bonus. The lower you make it to reduce the bias to neglible levels, to balance the uneven birthday distribution your point becomes mute. I.e. only maybe effects on average 1 out of the X birthday month members. Then you've got the physcological effect for member participation for 11 months out of the year do you bother visiting the site other then for the guessing game. Add to that the temptation for "new" accounts to appear with "birthdays" just for that month then hibernate for 11 months.

Overall it's up to the site what levers to pull for the leaderboard comp to encourage member participation and balance "fairness". They could drop or reduce the importance of skill components and make more randomly based. Hmm for starters got the guessing game that's already totally random. It appears a good percentage of members aren't that active and somewhere around 200-300+ floating members. You'll find then it's a lot harder to regularly even make the top 40. For now until a major increase of "active" members the leader board has decent odds. The way it is really there's not much holding back a lot more participation, apart from you need to be determined enough to log in daily and do the simple requirements.

Like I said previously due to the random component, members will have runs of luck. Also due to the skill requirements those members more determined to tick off those regularly appear higher on the leader board. It's more likely members giving up too soon and not ticking off daily requirements, once they feel aren't in the running. Potentially missing out on the opportunity of ending up in the top 10 or even the top 3.

After the first few days really I thought this month was going to like last miserable month. It's only due to an exceptional run of luck in week 3 of 57 points over the seven days and now extended to 74 over 9 has kept me in the running. That would definately by a long way be my best run over 2 years. Had a small run when last ended up 3rd thou was more consistent scores over the four weeks. Over 2 years only had a couple of small runs. Most times it's a frustrating seasaw of daily points. (to be expected)

Any member currently within about 10-15 daily random points from the leaders could likely end up being in the top 4. Beyond that will take a huge amount of luck, thou possible if within close to 20 points. It would mean the leaders, pray not me this week, would need a misserable week.

It can be a "cruel" game when it's like watching your footy team getting flogged in the first quater and only the loyal fans left to tough it out. Thou that pain is spread over four weeks. Or can be an exhilarating finish when snatch victory on the final siren.

Looking at the current top 50 leaderboard IMO a good percentage at least 50-75% have been top 3 or won the guessing game at least once.
Its only a matter of time at current level of active leader board members. The question is how long.....

Good Luck next month. :)

Lemond
23 Sep 17 3:23 PM

@Anna2077 I hear you regarding nice to win some cash etc to meet ends or boost to motivation. You'll find a lot of compers are doing the same and probably one of the top motivational factors. Each comper has there own story to tell why "enjoy" comping. From winning to pay bills, get to sample products wouldn't usually consider buying or win that holiday been dreaming of. Well it's cheaper then buying lotto tickets and better odds. Reminds me I should do the free lotto site comps more often.

Really the ROI for time put in is questionable. That can improve with bit of simple organisation for like using good comping sites with plenty of comps to reduce time finding them, keeping an eye out for your own local comps or reduce the time managing checking back if won.
The exceptions might be for those with fortes in certain areas that frequently have high value competitions. There are plenty of creative high value comps out there. You be surprised at the low amount of genuine entries for the prizes on offer. Thou at the high end it tends to bring out the few with those genuine fortes.

Occassional will come across high value random draws with low entries. I saw an Aussie one a couple of weeks back with around 130 entries for $2000. Argh no luck thou I suspect it wasn't really a random draw despite the T&C's. The lack of permit number displayed raises some eyebrows for that one. Could of been more of those "donate" to a local and tax right off.

Other things to consider to help get you by are doing things like market research which can pay good $. Occassional might come across ones that are interested in and close to you. They aren't the survey sites they usually involve participating in a hour or two activity.

Lemond
23 Sep 17 3:27 PM

@Lemond yeah you are still not getting it.. I understand how competitions work and I don't enter them for sport.. don't need candles and if I want chocolate I buy it.. same as many things that aren't needed in my life.

You joined this site after I did.. you've managed to get to top 3 a number of times .. you are currently placed at #1 and yet it's my birthday month and I'm sitting at 18.. another1 daily score ...

I give up .. no point in playing number game .. no point in checking daily numbers ... just entering few comps that might get me something that I need as money is tight and if not and things finally break then I have to pay.

Anna2077
23 Sep 17 11:24 PM

@Anna2077 Think I want to crawl back into bed. 1 for the daily points and missed the guessing game by 1. :( There's something to cheer you up. Argh!

Well only 2 twice finished up in the top 3 and that only very recently. If lucky enough maybe a 3rd time at the end of the month.

I get it, you think you're owed a win as joined longer. It doesn't matter how long ago you joined if not consisently every month completing virtually all the "skill" requirements. General observation it would appear you've missed doing those at times. If you really want to win you need to maximise your chances EVERY month for when finally get some decent luck.

If you hang in there and tough it out for the bad months never know when your luck may turn. Even if one month starts out bad no reason to chuck in the towel incase it really turns around. Basically what's happened for me this month after an average first few weeks. Still too early to tell where will end up.

The leader board comp is one out of 1000's each month out there. You never know if will strike it lucky. It's just usually not when you need it the most.

Good Luck. :)

Lemond
24 Sep 17 12:27 PM

@Lemond you don't know what I'm thinking or feeling so don't think that you do.

bohooo you missed the guessing game by 1 yet you've managed to win it previously, did you not?

awww you got 1 point yet you are still at #2 .. my heart breaks for you... you hate not to be winning all the time .. well my life is not consumed by competitions .. I only enter things that I need or want to do since I cannot afford to pay for most things these days

My luck will not turn when it comes to the leader board .. this month proves it, just like every other September since I've been here ... but don't worry that leaves you more chances to win

Yo win the most yet you cry the most .. sad ...

Anna2077
25 Sep 17 5:04 PM

@Anna2077 lmao you're way to funny. But isn't life just one big competition?

Lemond
25 Sep 17 5:25 PM

@lemond my last win was a good one exactly one year ago...I went to the Melbourne cup on a Carnival Cruise was a wonderful trip, but not a thing have I won in 2017 :(

KittyKat65
27 Sep 17 10:10 AM

@KittyKat65 Wow nice one. Sounds like would of been an awesome day. You could use that wonderful day as inspiration for other comps to turn your luck around. :)

That's one great thing about competitions you get the chance to experience things you wouldn't usually do or afford. If really lucky win something urgently need.

Well one great win or a whole lot of small ones.... Hmm hard choice depends on the prize, thou I do prefer winning cash or grocery vouchers lately. This year seem to winning small cash wins. I think would of won around $250 cash from a half dozen comps since Januaary so nothing to complain about. Cash is always king and a nice prize however small.

For why in a drought? IMO depends on how many competitions entering and what things specially looking to win etc. As a few compers have pointed out it seems increasingly difficult to win. It really depends where and your looking for finding competitions and what prizes liked to win. On Facebook for example all the Aussie compers are one degree of separation from each other. Mainly linked via a few dozen with major comping contact lists (for the tagging comps or likes etc). They get shared around very quicklly and your chances get greatly diminished. The pros and cons of even slightly attached to those groups.

Sometimes a random explore to find prizes of interest that might be off main comping radar, might help improve your chances. I should get in the habit of checking for more local comps. Or you can concerntrate on a forte for creative entry comps. Ideally if got a forte and also find off the radar comps your chances start looking great. Some compers do exceptional well just focusing on their niche creative competitions.

X fingers for a decent win by XMAS.

Good Luck.:)

I shouild of actually read the T&C's pasted. Aussie charity donation so maybe based on 5pm working day.

You may know can vote once per thou I suspect members may not of realised. Looks like you need all the help can get. Also try some of the aussie comping Facebook groups you might get some support there as well.

Good luck. :)

@Lemond - And anyone else interested, 1000 Comps update

A few weeks ago I stumbled across a video that has inspired me to enter 1000 comps, hopefully in 50 days.
Day 16 today (29.8.17) I have managed to stick to 20 competitions a day. I am now finding it harder to get the 20 a day. Stats so far,

Comps entered - 320
Comps Won - numbers 41, 56, 143 and 225
Prizes - 41 - EB Games - DVD Bundle prize pack - Twitter comp
56 - UnityWater - Family pass to KiteFest - Facebook Comp
143 - Max TV - 2 Tickets to Placebo - 25WOL
225 - Woombye Cheese - Cheese Pack - Web entry - best dad's joke
Comps still to be drawn - 214

So far so good, and I like to thank everyone on this forum for your ongoing support. Hoping you have all had some wins this week too

@Smalot11 Yeah OzBargain posts a few of international comps. :) There are a few regular members that post the international ones. Basically can't be stuffed posting them all until get around to auto generate OzBargain submissions.

There are better sources for them. I haven't been keeping up with them lately after a while you can end up with 20-30 sites to check each day. I need a secretary.

Lemond
01 Sep 17 5:12 PM

@Smalot11 Congrats. Wow professional service with TerryWhite Chemmart. It's great when you don't have to hassle claiming your prize. Sometimes the following up can be "testing".

Should be a lot of winners in the next few days. :)

Lemond
01 Sep 17 5:23 PM

@Smalot11 Hmm for tips it depends on the comp. Sometimes just doing random searches for what you want to win may come up with great off off the radar comps. Generally will find more high end value international giveaways as that where's most promoters/manufacturers reside. It may take bit of time checking the T&C's incase of things like if delivery is included etc etc.

Most of the internationals circulating are be referral based as gleam run etc. A lot more don't circulate as much if not referral.
Never know your luck and so far found no issues with prizes arriving. Actually quicker deliver and less hassles then a lot of Australian ones.

For tips for international well if referral base really helps if got a few hundred contacts etc to really lower the odds. I have noticed some international compers seem to manage without too much trouble. So realistically can be hard to compete against those. The pros and cons having lots of contacts. As heaps of comps out there they can't get catch them all :)

You can post referrals to various groups to help. If doing that there are numerous groups. I think I've got a good dozen or two at least spread globally. Would say average success doing that. Probably the maximum referalls every got be around 20-30. That can also take time.

When I do share publically I'll also "value" add. I.e. include basic info to help as sometimes post in international groups. Not something have to do, I find it might help attract interest for appreciation for spending the time finding out the T&C's etc. Also saves time whoever uses the referral.

Ok honestly I find quite annoying when checking out say a international group and can't spot the international comps shared easily. Hmm for the aussie groups well I'd say most just reguritate from the same Aussie comp sites going around. "Generally" most should be ok to enter without checking. Pet hate when find out they didn't check and has restrictions or has already expired.

There's a world comps over time you'll find some good sites worth bookmarking. Also the more the enter the more notifications you get for new comps down the track. After a while the comps come to you. In the end will come down to time for finding/managing them.

Sometimes the local comps around the corner might more effective. Or finding your niche and spending more time on that. If got a good creative flare you got a lot to pick and choose from. After a while you're probably start thinking doing a WOL for a small prize isn't worth the effort.

Good Luck.

Lemond
01 Sep 17 6:29 PM

@Smalot11 For those wins both came from the same site. I seem to doing well on the site exclusive comps. I prefer them lately as finding out the results I don't need trawl through my emails.

I do have a referral for that site http://freebies.com/signup?refer=196236

I don't think will get the guaranteed $25 for a few months until save enough points to genuinelly challenge.
They also have member only comps which appear to be PayPal not the prize displayed. I could be wrong maybe was just for my prize. At least it was better then the candles prize which was the actual comp won. I haven't done a candle comp in ages and thought they looked nice enough. lol

For the guaranteed prizes I had bit of strategy for last month. My advice if ever thinking of doing it possible wait a month or two for things to settle down. Wait for most to chew through points available. I.e. don't get too carried away using available points to quickly.

Overall it's probably not the most effective use of time. They also have a section for general aussie comps. Probably ones already circulating about.

Lemond
01 Sep 17 6:53 PM

@Lemond Interesting reading. Do agree quite often the local comps are the best. A local shopping center at the moment is giving away push bikes. It's an instore comp requiring a purchase. I went a made the purchase and then had to enqire of staff where the entry box was. It turned out it was knock over behind one of the checkouts. Think that comp will have very low entrants.

This 1000 comp challenge definitely has me fine tuning my competition process.

Will look into freebies next week, thanks for posting the link.

I do appreciate you sharing your knowledge and taking the time to reply.

Deeper down the comping rabbit hole I go :)

Smalot11
01 Sep 17 7:15 PM

@Smalot11 Thanks for using the referral. I'm assuming you used it. :)

Thanks It might help me get at least get in the top 400 for that general draw. Hmm if I want to push top 50 etc I should flog the referral. Strategy wise either I need to flog the referral this month like get around 30ish at least (unlikely without lots of effort) or x fingers a hell of a lot for the points hunt during the month. I was thinking about it towards the end of last month however from the points hunt late in the month I thought I had enough of a buffer to withstand any late challenges.

The points hunt is where I usually get a good percentage of the points. Overall I don't think I've got enough spare points up my sleeves to serious mount a genuine challenge for a while for top 10 or top 50. Maybe top 50 with bit of luck.

From last month which was the first month for the guaranteed prizes for top 50. The top 10 was approximately around 60,000 and top 50 I'm guessing was around the 40,000 points. I expect that will drop off a bit over the coming months as the influx of new members use up points chasing the top 50 etc. So you got decisions how to wisely use up points for the exclusive draws in the meanwhile. Initially you make take slowly and accumulate them for draws when ready. Then later on try for the top 50 etc.

I got in really quickly when I got the hint they were removing some points for sharing etc last month. Overall it was either last month or wait a few months. I just made sure I kept in contact with the top 10 then made my move when the points hunt came about. Then pray I had enough of a buffer to pysc out any challenges. :)

Argh the new guaranteed prizes is biased against the loyal long term members who would of used up a lot of points already. I had kept plenty of spare points as previously wasn't any incentive to waste them beyound making the top 400. You could try this month however keep in mind less points used can try again for other months for the top 50 etc. I.e. short term cash grab v's a longer strategy.

The exclusive member draws are decent odds and appears the winnings are in PayPal $$$. :)

Lemond
04 Sep 17 10:58 PM

@Smalot11 I might as well push the referral. I need some points for the exclusive draws anyway. God even with getting a heap the last few months and being selective with what draws I enter I've still managed to chew threw them.

Any questions regarding member draws or points hunt feel free to ask. Hint there are approximately 6500 webpages to browse where they are located when it's running. Usually they do it a few times a month for a few days.

Lemond
04 Sep 17 11:48 PM

Nope, not me yet. Haven't had a chance to get over their yet. Just managing to get my 20 comps in a day at the moment and that's all.

Good idea sharing your referral link. You deserve any bonus points you get :)

Like the fact they pay in PayPal as you can spend that in a lot of places.

Smalot11
06 Sep 17 9:22 AM

@Smalot11 Wow the only place I shared it was in this post until noticed the referral points. I did a separately post later. Someone else must be reading them. :)

Got my two PayPal wins yesterday for total of $60 AUD. I hope all countries get the same amount. Be tempting to change allegencies and apply for dual citizenship. Thou the downside won't be able to see the general aussie comps listed. Initally I had an issue set to "Other" and took a bit of sorting out to fix it. If you accumulate enough points to max out a draw there some really decent odds down to 1/8 thou I'm not sure what the PayPal prize would be for it. Well if it's cash you can't complain :)

Went of slight comping binge yesterday. I've had to temporary resort to bookmarking them and putting the end dates on the labels.
20 comps per day should be fairly easy to accomplish for whats just circulates on FB alone. A lot to pick and choose from.

Hint just check out the fb winners forum and bound to be a "few" members worth checking out. Once checked a few you probably see the same comps. Some compers have interesting niches for prizes I've come across. Also doing the random check of particants entered for a FB competition may also find nice comps. If lucky i.e. they aren't attached to the large groups might find decent odds. :)

Probably one area that gets slightly overlooked would be instagram comps as a lot seem to focus on FB comps. Then you I've got twitter, youtube etc. The challenge then is remembering to check back.

Lemond
06 Sep 17 8:08 PM

@Lemond Yes I tend to use FB comps to make up my 20 over the weekends. It would be nice if FB had a reliable way of searching for posts with keyword in them but alas I personally follow a lot of pages that do regular giveaways to keep me going. Still havent joined instagram but should do so as a lot of comps seem to be instagram only or if they are run on IG and FB the winner most times seem to come from IG.

Smalot11
08 Sep 17 10:31 AM

@Smalot11 Yes that is a good idea to search FB for comps. Was trying that today trying to get ahead of the pack for a certain type of comp if get my hint. :)

Lemond
25 Sep 17 6:38 PM
I

@Lemond I just used your referral link, now getting some samples :)

indriasun
30 Sep 17 11:50 PM

@indriasun Thanks. Yeah so you did. It's probably saved me from dropping out of the Top 400.draw for this month :)

X fingers for that leader board draw.

Let me know how it goes with the free samples I haven't checked them out. Anything really interesting? There's a lot to explore on the site and triva and riddles are fun.

How the points work, points accumulated during the month (based on USA time) are display for the montly leaderboard comp. For the new month that is reset to 0. Points accumulated from previous months are retained which can use for the member exclusive draws. See account details. So no need to worry about urgently using any accumulated for exclusive draws.

For the next few months I'm in saving mode to accumulate enough points maybe to try again for the top 1-50. Just getting the daily points for being logged in etc. It's a lot easier for new members to attempt to push for the top guaranteed prizes as old members would of used up potiental points completing the polls, riddles etc. It's still bit of work to tick off the points if trying. It's highly likely was my only of chance for that 1-10 guaranteed prize as been a member for a couple of years.

Strategically I would wait a bit for a lot of recent members to chew through points avaiable before making a genuine push for the guaranted prizes. The points hunt helps as when they do run them occassionally. That requires a lot of browsing to find them thou.

It really depends how urgently want to accumulate points also for the exclusive draws etc. I still wouldn't get carried away trying to get to the top 10 etc unless feel can genuinely do it. Kind of pschological game i.e. patience then make a move or go hell for leather then find out struggle for points other months. Eg trying for top just top 50 barely and retaining as many points as possible for other months and try again or risk pushing for the top 10 wasting points, if fail and also makes getting top 50 again harder. Regardless you can still the points accumulated for the member draws and if make it win-win like I did.

Don't worry too much about missing some exclusive comp draws they have them often. As soon as one finishes another is put up. Bit early to think I'm sure mathematically for the member draws you better off maximising the entries allowed then spreading a few entries between them.

Initially I slowly saved up for months just occassionaly entering draws for prizes was interested in. Thou it appears the prizes you get an option for a Paypal amount so you don't need to worry winning crap. .

@Lemond Oh no I've been found on Facebook. :) hahaha. Thank you for your congratulations, picked it up today and very happy. Also got the good news I won an iPhone7 today.
Now to win that elusive car. Hope you have a nice weekend.

Smalot11
06 Oct 17 6:37 PM

@Smalot11 Wow you are on a nice roll. Congrats The armchair looks great.

Today I noticed a Brissy Car wholesaler giving away a car this month. If haven't come across it will dig it up. It's a local visit for entry so odds might be decent for a car.

lmao. A long long time ago. :Oonce you win a few times hard not to be noticed. Damn putting your name in the blog I was going to have a "guess'.

I can give a classic example from couple of days ago when you don't want be noticed . A comp had relative low entries and suspected once I shared it to public might attract some interest. "vibe over the previous week with some other comps was getting noticed.

So as a precaution shared it like late as possible before closing and a within an hourr the flood of compers began around 1 am and by morning 400+ more comments. The funny thing it had already closed and as suspected was local pickup. It even surprised me how it was pounced on. Sometimes you see fake comps/scam spread just as easy with compers failing to use commone sense or check the terms and conditions.

That's the one big con even if indirectly connected to the large comping "gangs". I don't get why some mass tag apart from the reason it "may" provide bonus entries. It kinda shoots their own chances in the foot.

Occassional will come across low entry ones usually would share them with close contacts. There is one competition blogger that goes into the pros and cons of sharing requirements. Usually it's too much effort to bother with.

On that note just remembered got some last minute comps to do.

Good Luck. :)

Lemond
06 Oct 17 11:31 PM

@Lemond Yes very grateful for some very nice prizes this week. On a side note i ticked over to 1000 comps entered yesterday, took 54 days. 20 comps won thus far, just under 300 still to be drawn. A coupe of cars in there so never know might get lucky.

Haven't seen the Brisbane car comp, may be worth the drive from Sunny Coast if you come across it again.

Facebook it's an interesting place :)

Now what to do with myself, double up and keep going to 2000 haha :)

Good luck mate, thanks for the support with the 1000 comps, do appreciate it

Smalot11
07 Oct 17 12:06 PM

@Smalot11 Congrats to making to 1000 comps. It's great when you win things urgently require or are considering buying. Wow winning around 1/50 that's pushing your luck must be entering quite a few lower odds comps in general.

Found it again https://www.facebook.com/MBwholesalecars/
Edit new post from them a few hours ago. Taken me a few hours to close down some windows on the pc and just noticed a new post. :( https://www.facebook.com/MBwholesalecars/photos/a.1800659936614828.1073741829.1702882073059282/1987364921277661/

I'm not sure how good the prize is, The only other comp off hand is for a large bike trailer up your way comes to mnd that was circulating a few weeks ago. Educated guess would be pickup.

Yeah it's definately local pickup I swear a lot of the compers have no commonsense either that or just "entering" to pass the comp on to others.. Note have to wait till they get 3,000 likes it might be a while. Those can get challenging for checking back.
https://www.facebook.com/yandinatrailerfabrication/posts/482447155457420

How do you manage to keep up with checking back on results?

My main issue is due to my frustrating slow pc for checking back. If entering 1000 FB comps and takes a min or two each time (if lucky) there's a day gone just doing that. Why I send all FB notifications to email in the hope will catch draw announcements. If the winners are posted in the groups can search quickly for the usual terms. So should catch it the result a few times and if tagged a few more times. Odds are might catch one of those email notifications.

I won an Ipad Pro with keyboard last year which helps at times just find it a touch annoying for entering comps and bookmarking. I've got heap of comps to get around to this weekend which just quickly saved the posts using FB. One thing I don't utilize enough is FB built in features checking your own timeline for post/comments etc.

Yeah FB is an interesting place... After a couple of years comping can see how the giveaways propergate between the compers.
Just noticed a small cash pirze from a small business with currently very few followers. That came my attention doing a random peak at a profile from another comp. Sometimes find interesting comps or promoters that way. If haven't already noticed the comping "gangs" stand out when a few of them mass tag. Also sometimes check if any "mutual; contacts have entered. That can decide if need to consider should bother with keeping it low key. *Pro for being indirectly connected.

Hmmmmm well as that comp is showing numerous compers already entered it won't be long before that spreads. The comp was going for a few weeks under the radar. Can pinpoint today when it came to attention of the compers. That promnoter just increased its folllowers by double just while typing the post. Things to wary of when finding decent odds comps. One of the major factors for reducing the effort required to win might down to finding decent odds then praying it doesn't go too mainstream or having a forte for creative comps.

lmao. Oh once you start there's no going back. It's still early enough before XMAS to run. You'll notice all those promoters you've been building up on FB will be start increasing their posts around early Dec with giveaways. I saw one for giveaways each week for a 12 weeks to XMAS. Gee is XMAS that soon.

Best of luck hope you win a new car. :)

Lemond
07 Oct 17 5:03 PM

@Lemond Thanks for the links. I have seen the Yandina Trailer one. I don't bother entering comps where they stipulate reaching a certain number of likes before they draw.

Thanks for the car one too, If I happen to be in Brisbane on a Saturday in the next few weeks I'll definitely call past :)

As for checking back it's a bit hit and miss, no exact science figured out yet. Especially when you enter a large volume of comps.

As for winning, I am happy to say add one more to the tally, 21 now. I don't particularly worry about odds but I do really make sure I read the T&C's it's amazing how many people don't follow them especially 25WOL. Quite often promotesr don't say 25WOL anywhere apart from the T&C's. I also try my best to think of who may be judging and what type of comments they might be looking for. As you may have noticed yourself, if a promoter chooses a type of answer over and over (FB is good for that because you normally can see the winning answer) again I style my answer to fit with what they normal choose.

No exact science that's for sure. So grateful for anything that I do win especially like you say if needed and saves you buying it. Every little bit definitely helps.

Actually looking forward to the XMAS comp, only really started late Dec last year so had misses most of them buy that time. Yes wasn't it only the year 2000 like last year, 2018 soon!

Have you entered The Block car comp, codeword today is BACKYARD if you haven't

Smalot11
08 Oct 17 11:48 AM

@Smalot11 Contrats again. Might have start doing those in advance to keep up. :)

Total agree a lot don't read the terms and conditions why I keep seeing that Trailer being shared around. Other times T&C's have to hunt down or aks the promoter to clarifiy. Even on occassions promoters have "failed" to read their own T&C's

My motto if you're going to play the game know the rules. :)

For judging creative entries occassional check what previous reponses and styles a promoter tends to look for. Appliances Online come to mind. It appears there's a couple of styles they favour. You often see a run of creative comps with a requiring similar responses from a variety of promoters. Most likely due to new movie release or reoccuring event etc.

One thing when get back to this database to able to keep a track my entries and winning ones for future reference for inspiration. For specific prizes it takes some leg work to trawl around each time for getting the feel of what type of response they might be looking for. Bookmarking gets a mess over a couple of years.

What is your breakdown of creative entries and random draws of comps won? Also are they more locally based?
Winning around 1/50 comps is exceptional. For random draws be hard pressed to find less then 100 entries. Even for creative comps can attract lots of attention thou there are plenty of those that go under the radar. If a good percentage are local your main competition might sitting right beside you. :)

XMAS comps gee almost time to start preparing for them soon. Lesson from last year is start compiling a list of those interested in. By around day 3 found it easier and quicker to set up a page of clickable links to do each day. Need to on the ball so can get entries into the first few days before the masses join in.

No I don't watch the Block thanks. Reminds me to do this weeks Living Room was it TACO or TACOS?

@Smalot11 Possible I've just won a PC. Just noticed an email from a comp in my junk folder. Damn winning emails always going to my junk folder.

I'm a bit cautious as they are asking for shipping costs via Paypal of $60 which wasn't mentioned. Actually very few details in the T&C's etc. Need to confirm what exactly are the specifications etc and work out what precautions to take. I'll do a post bit later if anyone has had any experience.

Had to dig around bookmarks from last month to double check if not just another spam congrats email. Thou I've never seen a spam one for a PC. Well found the comp in my bookmarks was hidden under my 2017 Sept Youtube folder thou was a gleam entry method.

Hmm spider sense says I need to think about this competition carefully and take any neccessary safeguards. Argh I desparetly need a new PC thou don't want that to blindside me. Was reading an article recently regarding trust. Speed is the enemy of trust.

Bit too early for congratuations. When sorted out and actually receive it I'll believe it.

Ok 10 lucky draws sounds around right for 1000 comps. It all depends on how many other entries on average. If some local pickup comps unlikely see 1000's of entries up your way. Usually I see at least 300+.entries and not suprised when see 1000's at times.

Will have to check if this weeks guessing game has been announced yet. You need a bit of luck for the guessing game and get in early as possible to maximise your chances as appears around 200-300 at least members enter.

I checked early this morning and was still showing last weeks winner. That's usually updated at 3am AEDT. There also been a slight delay for last months leaderboard will be sorted out this week.

Sounds promising. Hopefully and brand new PC and not a scam.

Hope it is real, let us know how you get on :)

Smalot11
08 Oct 17 7:01 PM

@Smalot11 Well nothing rings of confidence from the email, youtube channel, twitter and facebook found searching for their email and google etc. So I'm highly unlikely to risk paying the delivery cost. For starters the delivery cost given probably won't cover shipping if its USA to Australia. Aussuming USA as that what's info is provided in their youtube details.

I might play along a bit to see what can uncover. Also email gleam etc to see what they think. If indeed a scam gleam should be notified for starters.

The reads:
Congratz! you are the winner drawed from my "PC Giveaway If you cant pay 60$ for shipping via paypal i have to redraw and select another winner sorry! Contact me back when you can! SO we can sort things out and send you your new Product!

No mention who they are etc.

Lemond

Does seem suspicious unfortunately :( let me know how it works out.

Smalot11
09 Oct 17 11:25 AM

@Smalot11 Yeah rings of danger Will Robinson!

From googling the winning email all I found was warning signs. A post offering to sell their YouTube channel at a "discounted" price etc. Couple of FB pages related to broken comp links on Youtube they previously hosted by the looks of it. Nothing they give any idea who they are etc or more importantly and confidence it's nothing other then a SCAM.

Got a follow up email from them them to provide shipping details and they will cover any additional shipping costs. After paying the $60 to paypal. The first thing came to mind $60 couldn't cover the weight of a PC being shipped from the USA. I've consider that a few times for legitament comps. Also they asked wouldn't I like to know the PC details. Argh you think they would of sent that in the winning email. Of course would of like to know.

So I've sent Gleam an email regarding it. Wow got an almost instanteous response:

We do ever recommend paying for shipping, it's most likely a scam based on the data you've provided.
I would ask for receipts first, we'll look at the account on our end and take the appropriate action.

I think they meant we don't ever recommend etc.

Also done the same for YouTube.

Lesson is don't tease me with winning a PC LMAO.

How many competitions do you think you enter a day or week?

Smalot11
15 Aug 17 6:38 PM

Well ... it varies. Some months it has been around 1000+ comps at XMAS,. Add to that daily bonus entries I've had around 100+ simulateously running. On average its probably been around at least 250-350 per month over the last couple of years. My old montly comping bookmarks would give a rough total.

It doesn't take much to enter to a couple hundred over a month without realising. Just for this site you've got at least 5 members only comps per month. (Leaderboard + 4 guessing games). So that's around 100 + 23 I've entered /700 daily entries just for this site over almost 2 years.

I've done couple of comping binges where might of entered like 100 in a hour. lmao Not something I'd try on my PC it would die of shock.

Currently would be below average the number of comps entering until I've "reorganised" how I manage competitions entered. That's a ongoing project I started around January after the XMAS comping tsunami.

Entering the easy part. It's managing entries that's the challenge! I love to know the ways compers keep it with it all for checking back etc.

Good Luck :)

Lemond
15 Aug 17 9:04 PM

Yes, the more I comp the deeper I go down the rabbit hole. Hahaha
Thanks for the reply. Found an interesting video on YouTube where the guy enters 1000 comps in 50 days so got me thinking.
Looking forward to the Christmas rush as I only started getting serious around Jan/feb of this year but definitely need a plan of attach before then.

Good luck to you too :)

Smalot11
16 Aug 17 6:24 AM

@Smalot11 lmao. I might of seen that 1000 comps in 50 days. A UK guy from memory? From what I recall he wasn't very effective in his methods.

Argh last XMAS was my first year doing the XMAS advent ones. I probably did around 1200++ enteris for XMAS period.

My advice for the comping XMAS rush, run , just run, while you still got time. lmao

That and turn off your social media notifications during the XMAS period, espically if you got a few comping contacts on FB. I could detect lots of XMAS cheer from other compers just "loving" their notifications. I would wait until the quiet hours so could actually use FB. It was almost unusable during the day.

I don't have that many comping contacts and prefer keeping it to small friendly bunch. :) I hate to imagine the notifications for those with 100's of comping contacts.

One method that I found handy for the advent comps is create a clickable list of links for each day. I used FB to create a private list and added as neccessary. I had around 30-50 to do each day for a month. There was probably at least double the popular ones going around. So thats around 500+ comps in 12 days

I also noted down the ending dates and grouped together ones running the same period eg 1-12th etc to avoid clicking on them once expired, as they don't all start/end at the same time. Apart from entering for the following days was also handy for checking back. I still that filed away it might come in handy for next XMAS. Good chance a lot of those promoters might run advent comps again.

Planning helps I would recommend start at least a week or two before Dec 1st and have a method where can quickly click on a link for each day. I started a bit late on the advent ones and was still finding new advent ones like on day 11.

Like most comps best to get in early before the masses join in.

Lemond
16 Aug 17 8:33 AM

@Smalot1 For this XMAS hopefully by then will have a more automated system up and running. At least a working prototype. Once you start doing like 200+ comps each month you get issues with keeping up to check back using various methods eg bookmarks etc.

There are few ways can utilize various comping sites to help manage entries. For this site

I've noticed a few compers tend to a good majority of comps from only one site to help centralize the managiment of comps entered. Thou that has it's various limititions and disadvantes. I.e. Once you start using a multitude of comping sites or do a lot of adhoc FN/social media comps. Plus once it's listed on a popular comping site you've got at least 300+ others entering it.

What I'm working on It's a lot more complex then a FB page of clickable links or bookmarks. Involves a few databases collecting, organising and managing the comps. I will have to think how to organise the advent ones for the XMAS rush. What I've done a few months back to handle the daily bonus entries should help manage those. An advent classification might come handy to split them up.

For international comps was managing like 10 timezones for and 100+ simulateous comps at times. It can get "challenging" for priorising when to do them during the day. When was in full comping mode was staggering bonus entries during the day according to what time they where due. That was with the help of a database to keep track of the rolling daily bonus expiry times with the ability to just click on the links to open up a browser.

One thing you'll need to be careful during the XMAS rush is not getting "sinned binned" on the various social media for high activity in a short period. I.e. too many tags, comments etc in a period. I'm not sure what the exact limits are for each. Occassionally I see compers whinging that have been sinned binned mainly from over tagging.

Good Luck for the XMAS ones you'll need it. The chances are you'll win a few dozen wines which will come handy around day 12. lmao

Lemond
16 Aug 17 9:19 AM

@Smalot11 ha me too! used to keep track but finally given up.. will only keep track of the wins (when they come)

Anna2077
16 Aug 17 11:18 AM

Yes you are right. A young UK guy who who a prize pack when he was little decided to enter 1000 comps to see how many he would win, he ended up with 4 wins and decided it was all to hard.
My mission at the momnet to to track 1000 comp that I enter as I would love to know if I can do better than 4 wins :)
As for FB I also keep it quite low key :)

Love to hear more of your programs when you get them figured out.

Smalot11
16 Aug 17 4:41 PM

@Smalot11 Good luck sounds like an experient in probabilty.

For random draws if say the average odss for each comp entered are 1/500 be somewhere around 350 required for a 50% chance of winning at least once. You could work out the distribution for winning one or more times.

A simplifed version and starting point would be something revolving around the ODDS of winning = 1- (499/500) ^350 = approx 50%
. i.e. 1 - (average prob of losing) to the power of number of comps entered.

The real overall odds are 1- ((prob of losing comp1)*(prob of losing comp 2) *(et cetc i.e.prob of lossing of each indvidual comp as they vary) ) Then could a distribution of winning once, twice, ... 1000 times. Argh to win them all would astronomical.

if say the average odds of wining are 1/350 and 1000 comps entered
Odds to win at least once = 1- (349/350) ^1000 gives approximately 94% chance of wining one or more times.

The forumulas provided just a starting point. There some online calculators I could dig up to provide a rough distribution of probabilities for likelyhood of winning one or more times, once, twice, etc etc given the average odds and number of comps entered.

So 4 wins from 1000 comps entered sounds about reasonable for random draws. It's all a numbers game, more you enter and the lower the odds the more likely to win. If manage to find a lot of draws with good odds will be the biggest factor. That may take some time to go off the main comping trails. Eg from in person local shopping centre comps etc etc.

The point of providing the rough probalities you know roughly what realistically to expect. As the example is random draws of course will be variablity in the actual results. The distribution from numerous "experienments" you will find you get a distribution that most might win say between (1-7) comps each. The range is just an example would need to do the distribution probabilities.

Yeah it may be hard work for little reward. Without a strategies to help reduce the odds, or priorise time on comps that appeal to your fortes could "waste" a lot of time. I'll also add there's the time also to check back to manage comps entered. A reoccuring theme is compers prioritising their time to maximise their ROI.

From observation the compers that appear to win reguraly have a creative forte for the WOL photography/video etc etc to supplement their droughts between random draw wins. Over the XMAs period I noticed a couple of compers winning reqularily with a forte. For one case a comper's rap videos seemed to appeal to a number of judges. They would of won like $10,000 -$20,000 in prizes over a month or two. Well when got a forte and it works why not flog it for all it's worth. :)

Even for random draws there may be strategies to maximise the odds of winning depending on the T&C's. Eg for the guessing game I enter ASAP as the odds only reduce the later in the day you enter your guess. I.e. probability of someone guessing the same number or near before you increases. A guesstimate there could be around 200-300 members guessing each day.

There are lot of other ways can improve the odds eg having lots of FB contacts for tagging comps or referrals etc. They can be more of a "marketing" excerise then random draw at times. Especially for international comps I've notice some international compers are highly organised for those.

A series of small tweaks can help inprove finding ways to cut down the time to find/enter and manage comps. Some of the blogs give general adice to improve creative entires.

Hmm personally bookmarks are the easiest thou can get a mess and ineffective once starting doing a mass of comps. They only really are effective if put the ending date at the start of the bookmark label in a consistent manner. That takes time etc.

Apart from keeping a record they can come in handy to remind you if already entered and come across the same comp from another source and attempt to enter twice, which may invalidate your entry.
Also the bookmarks appear across all my devices. I've used them at times to create lists for the daily bonus entry comps. I gets complex when you got comps that expire months away etc etc. Another advantage you can import them into say a spreadsheets/database etc. Overall I'm moving away from bookmarks thou will be handy could automatically manage them from the database. Require a method where I can still access the database across multiple devices/patforms.

Hope you keep your santity tracking 1000 comps. The biggest factor might be the effect on your motivation. How are you proposing to keep track of them all?

Good Luck :)

Smalot11
17 Aug 17 9:42 AM

@Lemond I am keeping notes on all 1000 that I enter with the most important element recorded been the draw date.

Interesting point you make about the guessing game. I will have to make sure I get my guess in early.

The thing that most excites me even with winning 4-7 comps out of 1000 is that you never know if one of those comps will be a brand new car or something else awesome. You may have seen the older gentlemen who's a lifelong comper and he goes on to the the story one year he won a box of chocolates fort he whole year the next year he won a yacht.

As the saying goes you have to be in it to win it :)

Smalot11
17 Aug 17 9:47 AM

@Trevsta 100 per week is still impressive. Currently wouldn't be doing that. For starters you need to on the ball with checking back.
I've heard compers doing hundreds a day. I'm not sure how you could physically do hundreds hmm 1 min per comp that's a couple hours non stop assuming you got the comps on tap and not spending any time locating them. It sometimes takes my pc a min just to load a page. :(

Thou when I've had the interface running for the daily bonus entires I could quickly rattle them off. Most of those would be gleam comps. To save time loading the page I would record the direct gleam link instead of the site link.

I've learnt need to carefully with doing too many at once that require tweets etc. I've come accross twitter complaining once. That was annoying as that required SMS to reset passwords etc and took hours to finally sort it out.

OK for my XMAS list I had them prepared by about day 3-4. It was a lot easier after that quickly doing the 50+ reoccuring ones was interested in. During the XMAS rush you don't get much time to think just enter, enter enter.

That was just using the BINOM.DIST Excel function to give the probability for 0, 1, 2 etc wins
So the cummulative probability of 50% is around 2-3 wins for 1000 comps entered.

And for the average probability for a win 1/500 for 1000 comps entered
Successes    0    1    2    3    4    5    6    7    8
Probability    13.5%    27.1%   27.1%   18.1%   9.0%   3.6%   1.2%   0.3%   0.1%
Cummulative Probability   13.5%   40.6%   67.7%   85.7%   94.8%   98.4%   99.6%   99.9%   100.0%

So that video seems plausible with 4 wins from 1000 comps entered.

Those figures would give you a ball park expectations depending on the average odds for the comps entered. Note the forumula is a bit simplied due to the fact the all each comp in reality has different probabilities.

I think you be pushing it to expectto win 6-7 out of 1000 random draws, unless coming across decent odds for a lot of comps. You will occassional come across off the radar comps. Usually when a first time a promoter does a comp before they get noticed.

The leader board odds have beem pretty good for the last couple of years. It's probably one of best odds consistently going around. :)

Yeah you never know your luck. I won a nice Ipad pro with keyboard last year and the odds for winning that were something like 1/3500. It's annoying when you can't win a 1/20 odds comp. lol

Argh even for that win was lucky to find the email amonst the junk. I still reckon the luck isn't in winning, if you enter enough . It's finding that those winning emails/notifications in the haystack.

argh the formmating for the tables for now can't be bothered fixing up. Hopefully get the rough idea.

Lemond
17 Aug 17 11:54 AM

@Smalot11 The only issue with the draw date which isn't always given for starters, is that the winners announcements may lag. Some promoters are really prompt and will do at a set time. Others arghhhhhhhh could be weeks. That's where you need to be on the ball or good memory for checking back. Overall it's a bit pointless entering masses without some organisation.

There are some groups that announce winners that help to a degree. Also if got a few comping friends looking out for each other helps. Nothing be worse then winning and missing the notification and finding out too late.

@Lemond Thanks for taking the time to calculate. i understand it all :)

As for the guessing game isn't first in best dressed.hahaha In saying that I'm not up at midnight most days :)

Yes no exact science to what I doing. To be honest I'm surprised there are so many comps out there. But agree I dont understand how some are saying they enter 100's per day unless they are at the computer 8 hours straight.

Wish me good luck in winning more than 4 and I will let you know how I do in a few months.

Smalot11
17 Aug 17 4:30 PM

@Smalot11 possibly came in a bit late on this conversation...but I would probably describe myself as more a niche comper only entering for things I really want. Time for me is limited so I prioritise the important ones for me first then others that I wouldn't mind winning, probably about 50 comps a week max. No issues with keeping track as sometimes 1 entry will take me two hours - I remember them! and just use the online calender for simple notes if I need to. Suprisingly I've done Ok doing things like this, this year still getting regular wins. I don't enter anything less than $100 and avoid the candle comps :) An English comper once wrote if you don't get out and do interesting things with your life, how can write about interesting things! - Wise words! For me balance is important as well.

fourleaf
17 Aug 17 6:25 PM

@fourleaf Wise words indeed. I like the saying life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.
I'm normally the same around 50 max a week. Going on a crazy 1000 comp journey at the moment. 107 comps entered in 4 days so far. I'm surprised too because I've manage to enter that number and stay away from the 'candle' comps.
Wish me luck and a few months from now you might see a newspaper saying man enters 1000 comps and wins them all hahahaha :)
Thanks for your comment and here's to a winning week!!!

Smalot11
17 Aug 17 8:57 PM

@fourleaf I agree that prioristing your time becomes an important factor. The online calender sounds interesting is that the one connected with outlook? I might of tied it at one point, however found it didn't quite suit keeping things manageable. It got a bit complex how to use it for reoccuring daily comps etc.

@Smalot11 The absolute number of comps entering isn't that important. Like your finding you can easily find lots of good quality comps. There's a whole world of them. There's isn't a rabbit hole big enough to stuff them all in.

Be interesting what you learn about what methods for finding and managing you find efficient.
You may find it's a challenge for finding comps from multiple comp sites, various social media feeds, emails and FB notiifications, twtter notifcations, instagram notifications, youtube etc etc to check for winning annoucements. You may also consider checking out your local comps which might be off the main comping radar.

IMO a lot of compers end up concerntrating on the FB and less so the instagram comps or end up limiting to a couple of comping sites to keep it manageable.

You may get away with minimal recording etc of the comps entered. Thou when your dealing with doing something 1000+ times you start evaluating how you can simplify and reduce the effort required. A minute saved/wasted per comp adds up. Time you could doing somthing more fun or entering more comps. I wish could say there's one simple method. More what you find simpliest and effecitive Enter and forget would be great.

Lots of small decisions where to concernate your time and effort and bound to be a few lessons along the way. Your challenge is how to have fun with them. :)

And as @surferboy83 has shown entering comps can be an adventure. Not just from the trips won also the competition itself can be an adventure whether you win or lose. If motivates you to push your bounarys to be a bit of a "git" and have a bit of fun along the way then go for it. :)

@suferboy83 If haven't already done so when's the "fun with comps" youtube being posted?

Feedback / Suggestions

Hi @admin

The surveys don't load for me. I've only tried two as they fall off my screen when I come back to the page and I don't want to miss the points.

I get a "Sorry this page didn't load but it is out problem not yours" type of message.

Di_D
09 Aug 17 7:42 AM

I got that as well for one after spending way to much time for a long one. Just after doing the final question. :(

Tried again then got a message wasn't accepting any more responses.

t's a bit annoying that the page redirects from the site instead of opening a new tab. I wonder if it matters instead of clicking on the button to right click and do the survey? Or does that risk not being credited with the compbux? Hmm will have to try a few things out.

Lemond
10 Aug 17 6:03 AM

I will have to investigate guys. We just introduced a new survey panel so not sure what it could be. If i can't find anything i will reward some points manually. Will do it, so it opens in a new window.

admin
10 Aug 17 2:26 PM

@admin I have the suspicion for the Computer Security survey I did around 5ish am it wasn't logged as I right clicked on the button to open it up in a new window, instead of clicking on it. Why it was still was avaiable to try again when I refreshed the competitions home page. Thinking about it that's the same behaviour for triggering the competitions as viewed and been awarded the leader board point for it.

Was a bit strange that it let me almost complete/sumbit the survey before getting "It's our problem not yours" message. Then a few minutes later when tried again this time clicking on the button I got the full quota type message.
All the other surveys I've attempted were done via directly clicking the button. I was getting slightly annoyed with it redirecting from the site page and tried right clicking to open in a new tab. That way I could see what my compbux total was before attempting the survey to see if was awarded etc.

10 Aug 17 6:37 PM

@admin For @Di_D my only question would be what type of device/Operating System/browser was using incase the issue is related to the browser etc. I haven't tried doing the surveys via my Ipad. I've only been doing them via the PC/windows 10 Chrome. Most likely the admin whould know that from any logs. :)

It might take till 2050 thou unless can pick a few compbux from the leader board. Hmm for this month might be wishful thinking.

At least this method seems more reliable then via emails That method I didn't get a option to even attempt the survey.

Lemond
08 Aug 17 7:46 PM

@Anna2077 There's a new one finally got my first 75 compbuxs for TV streaming. I checked how much compbux I ha first and appears was added immediately. Maybe if they keep pumping them out might reach the $50 level lot sooner then expected. :) Will have to see if they keep up listing them. At least being connected with the site you don't have to go hunting for emails etc.

Suggestion for a blog post: The Art of losing gracefully

IT Unleashed announced on Facebook that they were cancelling their August giveaway due to the actions of a person who did not win one of the giveaways. I have seen this happen for other businesses who become disillusioned after being the subject of attack and it seems to be getting more frequent.

Businesses don't have to give anything away. They do it to raise their profile and, frankly, there are other ways to do this with fewer headaches.

Perhaps there should be an new etiquette - one where we remember to thank the business, particularly on facebook, for the opportunity even if we don't win. Where we congratulate the winner. Perhaps a "like" on the announcement post.

I know everyone here is likely to be someone that already do these sorts of things and understand that the relationship with these businesses needs to remain positive, so everyone enjoys it, but perhaps we need to lead by example.

Ive heard about this recently. Its poor sportsmanship really. If you dont win then thats the luck of the draw and you move on. I agree with you Di_D. Companys dont have to have giveaways and who they choose to win is entirely their choice

melmairs
04 Aug 17 11:13 PM

Yes, Di_D, that was quite a rant from the sound of it. Shame on that individual, whose post has now been removed. I did send my words of support to the promoter. I'm not sure naming the individual was that helpful. A private message to them reminding them of social (media) etiquette may have fallen on deaf ears but was probably more prudent than tagging the individual. It's regretful that an August promotion is not running but hopefully they'll be back bigger, stronger and more resilient in September. They're a good mob, and as they've explained, they do this gratis, all whilst lifting their online profile and increasing their search engine ranking too. It's a 'I'll scratch your back if you'll scratch mine." Works for me. Hey, I'm itchy!

My wins are few and far between, but I ALWAYS ring the promoter and thank them very much for the prize, and follow up with an email after the prize is taken to tell them how it all went, it is more personal making that connection and I really do appreciate the win. It has never occurred to to me to abuse the poor promoter (even if the answer chosen was very similar). ps hate FB comps for that reason

I

I have fallen victim to this person. She is nasty and has bullied me several times. She seems to think all the comps belong to her and if she doesn't win she tends to write negative stuff about the business. She did this on a competition on 'Oliver Brown Instagram Page' and since then Oliver Brown hasn't run another competition. She has a tight knit group of friends / compers who stick by her though so she is a 'protected species'.

@Comp_chick Sounds like a Game of Thrones or Survivor episode. @toxicGherkin when's that next movie coming out . :)

The best solution if they're causing you persistent issues is just block them and their minions while at it. Sadly that "vibe" I've come across and the best resolution was to just block. It's not worth the headache.

The first rule of comping that most forget it's all about the promoter. Occassional will come across a poorly run competition, regardless it's always best to treat things dipolatically, take a step back and tthink first. Most times obvious issues are rectified ASAP.

Lemond

I am not a fan of facebook competitions, they are too public. I always email a thanks and if I get a phone call almost cry with thanks and appreciation :)

KittyKat65
08 Aug 17 10:02 AM

@KittyKat65 I agree with Facebook competitons are too public with one issue when you win may get"fan" messages. I recall my first Facebook win too well. Something that should be a celebration can get distressing when participants get nasty they didn't win. That was for a random draw. It's increasingly hard to limit yourself to non social media competitons as promoters tend to push various social media to increase exposer.

Overall thou if trying to avoid the limelight once you win most times your anonymity is gone. I recall one facebook post for a comp which had the winners name on a big check. Hmm I noticed the name didn't match their Facebook profile. When you win enough and put yourself out there its hard to remain anonymous even with "fake" profiles etc.

The competition wasn't run on Facebook it was a in person type comp however they published the winner on Facebook.

Lemond
08 Aug 17 5:48 PM

@Comp_chick Still think if it's a big enough issue to warrent blocking do that. Will save all the dramas. Also avoids any temptation getting drawn into it. If they are that persistent enough to create fake profiles to continue harassment the best advice is not respond back and just meticalliously log all correspondence. Then if left with no option there are legal options.

It's not something you really want and to resort to. Trust me it can be quite stressful.

For those thinking that a fake profile will make them anoymous thereare various methods for unmasking the individual. Yeah you try hiding your IP and chuck it through a onion router (TOR) etc however with some clever staticial analysis of Facebook may uncover the indivual. The best advice "own" your comments on social media and think first.
