The Glenlivet Code is the latest whisky from one of Speyside’s most legendary distilleries, and given the clandestine nature of the release that’s about all we can say. Between the mysteriously blacked-out bottle, absence of the usual tasting notes, and deliberate lack of information advertised about The Code’s careful ageing processes, figuring out the finer details of this delicious dram has been left entirely in the hands of the discerning drinker. So much so that anybody lucky enough to get their hands on a bottle is encouraged to use their online portal, to see how their palates stack up against Master Distiller Alan Winchester’s.
The Glenlivet Code has been designed to encourage whisky drinkers to differentiate between the aromas and flavours that make a certain style unique. There are many delicious traits endemic to The Glenlivet range, but here, the sensory experience of analysing a different release is heightened.
To solidify the fact that this is far from a typical whisky release, an exclusive event was held in Sydney where guests were treated to an interactive tasting session and challenged with the task of cracking The Glenlivet Code. The event was an experiential delight incorporating whisky, food, and performance art, as guests enjoyed drams of The Code whilst navigating through the veritable labyrinth of flavours and aromas found in the code, all in the name of trying to decipher the elusive tasting notes.

To celebrate The Glenlivet Code finally arriving on Australian Shores, we’ve teamed up with the famous Speyside distillery to give one lucky reader not just one, but five bottles of the good stuff to stock up their bar.
The Prize
The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve
The Glenlivet’s entry-level expression, Founder’s Reserve, is a pale gold single malt that’s been aged in traditional oak and American first-fill casks. Bottled with no age-statement, it shows citrus fruit and sweet orange on the nose, while orange zest, pear and toffee apples form a harmonious front palate. Fruit characteristics linger into the mid-palate, before a long, creamy finish.
The Glenlivet 15 Year Old
The youngest age statement whisky in The Glenlivet’s range, this dram shows a deep, intense gold colour, and a rich, buttery nose. Fruits and nuts are both present at the front palate, and develop more specifically into lingering almonds and soft spices at the finish, with thanks to the French Limousin oak casks used for ageing.
The Glenlivet 18 Year Old
One of the richest and most refined 18 Year Old Expressions you’ll find in any bottle from Scotland, The Glenlivet 18 Year Old has been finished in ex-sherry casks, which gives it an old-gold and apricot hue. The nose shows complex red and dark fruits and toffee, with fresh, sweet orange at the front of the palate and a lengthy finish rich with raisins and subtle spice.
The Glenlivet Nàdurra Peated Whisky Cask Finish
Drawing upon the distillery’s own historic traditions, Master Distiller Alan Winchester and his team used peat smoke during the barley malting process when crafting this exquisite dram. As a result, every sip comes laced with a warm and smoky kick. Also present are notes of vanilla, cream, and fruit. Naturally, it all rides over the palate in a smooth and silky wave. Delicious.
The Glenlivet Code
It’s a single malt whisky from Speyside, and it’s delicious. That’s all we’re allowed to say…
