In it, Bear finds a toy bunny rabbit under a tree in the forest. He thought it was the most special thing he had ever seen.
After taking it home, Bear tries to find the owner by posting ‘Found’ signs on every tree and on noticeboards. He also searches high and low for the owner, and in the meantime, becomes emotionally attached to the bunny.
The new friends swing on a tyre, play hide and seek, pick blackberries and share a picnic. It’s perfect day, until Moose – the rightful owner – hits the scene and yells, “Floppy, my bunny!”.
With tears in his eyes, Bear hands Bunny to Moose. As Bear walks off, Moose notices how sad he is and says, “Wait!”… then gives Bunny to Bear to keep, because “special toys are meant to be passed on to someone special”.
Language ease
This book has simple sentences and words – nothing you’ll especially have to explain to littlies. Each single page features only half, one or two sentences, making it an ideal book for toddlers and young readers.
Teaching points for kids
Being responsible (trying to locate Bunny’s owner), sharing, being nice to others, being considerate of others’ feelings and being empathetic.
For parents
Parents will be amused by the noticeboard pages – a double page each before and after the book ends – that have all sorts of ‘lost’ notices on a noticeboard. E.g. “Lost my train of thought…”, “Lost my marbles… help!”.
