When Broadsheet challenged Melbourne’s eco-friendly, reusable cup and bottle company Frank Green to create a product that would celebrate the 90th anniversary of Disney’s Mickey Mouse, its founder Ben Young took things a step further – he designed a special collection that’s now available for purchase.
We’re offering six people the chance to win a prize pack containing two limited-edition pieces from Frank Green’s Disney collection. The pack includes one Disney x Frank Green Stainless Steel 10oz Cup and one Disney x Frank Green Original 25oz Bottle.
Ben Young has warm childhood memories of Mickey Mouse. When he spoke to Broadsheet in September about creating the prototype, he recalled a family trip to Disneyland. “We went there for a whole week,” he says. “It was crazy. Going on all the rides and meeting all the characters as they’re walking through the streets – it was a real fairy tale.”

When it came to mocking up his Disney x Frank Green designs, which feature the simple, classic emblem of Mickey’s (and Minnie’s) ears, Young wanted to ensure the products would similarly reconnect users with happy childhood memories.
“It was mocking things up and asking people if it resonated with their childhood,” says Young. “That’s how we like to do things. It’s not an academic exercise. It’s speaking to people and understanding how it touches them emotionally.”
Determined to overcome the careless use of disposable products by offering customers an alternative they will gladly use everyday, Young says, “Frank Green’s vision is about stopping the manufacture of single-use coffee cups and water bottles. It’s about working with your customers and giving them a sense of ownership.” He hopes this is precisely how Disney fans will feel about the new range.
