One of Melbourne’s best chefs curates an evening of bespoke food and wine pairings, inspired by his mum.
Family dinners are a place to share recipes, provide nourishment and spend quality time.
On Thursday March 22 Peter Gunn, chef and owner of Melbourne restaurant Ides, will honour this by hosting The Family Table – a five-course dinner inspired by his own family gatherings, paired with five matched wines.
Gunn is one of Melbourne’s most exciting young chefs. A former sous chef at the critically acclaimed Attica, Gunn now heads up Ides, his own boldly experimental restaurant located on Smith Street, Collingwood.
Gunn’s Family Table – which will be held in the beautifully curated space of Weylandts furniture store in Collingwood – will showcase a series of dishes that call back to his youth. Each will be paired with a wine from the Brown Brothers flagship Patricia collection.
Fare will include sesame sourdough and peanut butter, inspired by the peanut-butter sandwiches of Gunn’s childhood; beetroot, horseradish and smoked herring, which aims to elevate the humble beetroot to fine-dining status; mains of Barramundi with black garlic and sweet corn, and lamb neck wrapped in parsley; and a dessert of strawberries and elderflowers – a tribute to the pavlova served by Gunn’s grandmother at family gatherings.
Each dish in The Family Table dinner will be paired with one of the five wines from the Brown Brothers Patricia collection, named after the Brown family’s matriarch, Patricia Brown. The winemakers’ flagship collection reflects the best in Brown Brother’s viticulture and winemaking and features pinot noir and chardonnay brut, chardonnay, shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and noble riesling.

General
1. By participating in the Broadsheet x Brown Brothers (Promotion), each participant fully and unconditionally
agrees and acknowledges that these terms and conditions are binding.
2. The promoter is Broadsheet, trading as Broadsheet Media Pty Ltd, ABN 20 131 593 201 of Level 1, 231
Smith Street, Fitzroy, VIC 3065 (Promoter).
3. The Promotion commences at 11:00 (AEDT) on Friday 9 March 2018 and closes at 09:00 (AEDT) on
Monday 19 March 2018 (Promotion Period).
4. Entry is open to VIC residents only who are over 18 year of age.
How to Enter
5. To enter this Promotion you must complete the application form including your first name, last name, date
of birth and email address.
6. This is a game of chance and skill plays no part. The Promoter’s decision is final and no correspondence
will be entered into with entrants.
7. Multiple entries are not permitted.
8. Entrants can only enter in their own name. The use of automatic entry software, mechanical or electronic
devices that allows an individual to automatically enter the competition is prohibited and may render all
entries submitted by that individual invalid.
9. Employees of the Promoter, immediate family members of any employee, and any associated company or
agency of the Promotion are not eligible to enter.
10. Entries not completed in accordance with these terms and conditions are void. Entries will be deemed void
if stolen, forged, mutilated or tampered with in any way.
Draw and Prizes
1. Judging for the prize will take place at Level 1, 231 Smith St Fitzroy, VIC 3065 at 09.00 (AEDT) on Friday
16 March 2018.
2. One (1) winner will receive an invitation for themselves and three (3) friends to the Broadsheet x Brown
Brother’s ‘The Family Table’ event, located at Weylandts. This event will include a four-course tasting
menu, with paired wines.
3. Total prize pool value is at approximately $800 including GST.
4. Winners of this competition will be notified via email to their nominated email address by 12.00 (AEDT) on
Friday 16 March 2018.
5. In this email the winner will be sent instructions to redeem their prize and the prize.
6. This prize is non-transferable, non-refundable, cannot be sold, exchanged for cash.
7. If the winner cannot be contacted, the Promoter has the right to select new a new winner.
8. The Promoter reserves the right to alter the rules of the competition at any time.
