Dear Readers,
Bryce adored animals, and we eventually ended up with a 'family of five', that were all rescue animals.
In his novel 'Matthew Flinders' Cat' the story of 'Trim' was also a testament to the companionship of a little cat that bravely participated in one of Australia's greatest journeys.
I would love to hear the stories of your beloved pets and animal friends, and so with great excitement I announce our ‘Bryce’s Animal Friends’ Facebook Competition!
To enter the competition you need to answer the following question:
‘Who is your favourite Animal Friend and Why?’
Your answer must not exceed more than 25 words.
1. Please make sure you submit your entry by answering the question above in the comments section of this Facebook competition post.
2. Then to complete your entry, please click on the link on the bottom of this post.
3. You will then be redirected to the competition page on the Bryce Courtenay website, where you can register your contact details.
4. Only after leaving a comment and registering your details, will your entry in the competition be valid.
The three most original and creative answers will be selected as our winners.
Our three special prizes include some precious animal mementos that Bryce and I collected over the years.
We know our lucky winners will cherish them.
Each of the three winners shall also receive a copy of 'Whitethorn' (stamped with Bryce's iconic signature) which Bryce felt was one of his best books and to some extent was autobiographical. Plus a copy of the DVD 'The Last Class', a compelling documentary of Bryce's final weeks, and the final writing course he bravely delivered.
The winning entries will be announced on this Facebook page on July 1st, 2014.
Today we are also celebrating World Environment Day.
As you will recall, Bryce was passionate about protecting endangered species, and was very proud to have been the Frog Ambassador for Sydney's Taronga Zoo.
Bryce was also a patron of, 'SAVE' which was founded by Nicholas Duncan who since 1987 has worked tirelessly to protect African Rhinos. www.thesavefoundation.org.au
One of Bryce's last great trips was in late 2010 when he undertook 'The Great Walk of Africa', a 180 KM trek following the Tsavo River in Kenya where he managed to step on a crocodile, and had to face off an African buffalo, which had strayed from the herd!
Good luck to all entrants, the BCI team and myself cannot wait to read your entries.
With many woofs, purrs, roars, cheeps and tweets!
Christine Courtenay
