Competition Details & Terms

What are the prize details for this competition?
Win the chance to name a star! - National Geographic Channel is giving you the opportunity to name your very own star which can be viewed anywhere in the Southern Hemisphere! You will receive a certificate along with a star chart and co-ordinates showing you where your star is located in the night sky. Your star will derive from the Sydney Southern Star Catalogue. From 1967 to 1983, astronomers at Sydney Observatory carried out an astrometry program to carefully measure the precise position and motion of about 80,000 stars visible from the southern hemisphere. These astronomers took 1452 photographs of the night sky, using 20cm by 20cm photographic glass plates. Great care was then taken to measure the precise position of the stars. The Sydney Southern Star Catalogue (SSSC) by astronomers Dr David King and Dr Nick Lomb, as published in 1983, contains 26,926 stars. For your chance to win, simply answer the question below! Tell us in 25 words or less, what is your favourite constellation and why?
