The National Gallery of Victoria presents The House of Dior: Seventy Years of Haute Couture from 27 August to 7 November. Exclusive to Melbourne, this exhibition will feature 140 garments from Christian Dior Couture over 70 years from 1947.
Dior famously introduced the new post-war silhouette with rounded shoulders, boned bodices, padded hips and full skirts made with an abundance of fabric, a luxury not available during the war.
A selection of ballgowns, evening dresses and contemporary designs will be on display. The exhibition will also feature accessories, sketches, photographs, haute couture toiles, multimedia and archival material.

Christian Dior died in 1957 aged 52, and work from successive designers, Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferr, John Galliano, Raf Simons and Maria Grazia Chiuri, will be on display.
“It is a great pleasure and honour for the House of Dior to be celebrating its anniversary in 2017 in Melbourne,” Chief Executive Christian Dior Couture Sidney Toledano said.
“This exhibition will be the biggest Dior retrospective held in Australia. It will cover 70 years of creation, presenting the emblematic work of Christian Dior and his successors.”
